Victoria loses 1,900 jobs in September, sign of economic uncertainty
Victoria, B.C.- Creeping economic uncertainty appears to have touched most sectors and cost the capital region 1,900 jobs and a slight increase in the unemployment rate to 6.3 per cent in September, according to Statistics Canada.
The Victoria labour force dropped to 195,700 in September, while the number of those employed also dropped by 1,900 to 183,400 compared with August of this year. The unemployment rate inched up 0.1 per cent from August and is 1.1 per cent higher than it was in September last year.
By contrast, employment rose by 32,000 positions in B.C., pulling the province's unemployment rate down to 6.7 per cent in what is the first notable employment gain since July 2010.
