Tourism Flat
Nanaimo tourism industry struggled through a weak November with BC Ferries and conference centre business down significantly. Tour bus business dropped 48.4%
- According to Stats Canada, tourism spending in Canada increased 0.8% in real terms in the third quarter of 2011. This was the ninth consecutive quarterly increase in tourism spending and is attributed to higher spending by Canadians at home as foreign travel spending in Canada remains virtually unchanged.
- Like wine? Southern Vancouver Island and the Gulf Islands are home to 8.4% of the province’s vineyards, 18.1% of its wineries and 5.6% of its acres under vine. Province-wide, B.C.’s share of Canada’s cultivated grape area, marketed production of grapes, and the farm gate value of grapes, has been increasing.
